Dorothy Corkille Briggs was born in Chicago, Illinois, in 1891. She spent her early childhood years on her family farm in Illinois. At age 16 she moved to San Antonio, Texas, where she attended Incarnate Word Academy. After graduation, she returned to the family farm until 1912 when she married Olin Briggs of Uvalde
They moved to San Antonio where Mrs. Briggs raised seven children while working at various jobs. She was widowed in 1946 and moved into the care home operated by the Sisters of Mercy.
She died there on January 29, 1967.
